Throughout their acting careers Sanjay Dutt, Salman Khan and Fardeen Khan have been haunted by their never ending court cases.
Sanjay Dutt Charged with Terrorism Offenses
Sanjay Dutt known as Bollywood's most controversial star was arrested in 1993 after the Mumbai blasts for possessing a AK47 rifle, that was allegedly part of the ammunition that were used in the blasts. Dutt spent 18 months in prison before he was released on bail and has been on trial for the offense ever since. In 2007 after almost 15 years of court dates he was cleared of terrorism charges but was sentenced to prison for 6 years for possessing and concealing a firearm illegally. Dutt appealed against the decision and is currently out on bail.
Salman Khan Charged for Poaching
Mumbai's most loved superstar Salman Khan has been in and out of court since 1998 for allegedly shooting a rare species of deer. In 2002 he was also charged for a hit and run incident where he was accused of running over some pavement dwellers, killing one. Salman Khan denies both accusations and is also currently out on bail.
Fardeen Khan on Trial for Buying Cocaine
Fardeen Khan has been fighting a long tedious legal battle after he was arrested for buying cocaine from a drug dealer in 2001. The exact amount of cocaine that was found in his possession is in question. If the amount was less than 2 grams then the maximum sentence he faces is 6 months but if it was more than that then he could be sentenced to serve a longer term.
These stars have been on the wrong side of the law for many years. However the industry has supported them throughout their ordeals attributing their actions to errors in judgment and simple mistakes.
Bollywood will not Support Shiney Ahuja
As Shiney Ahuja has been accused of the horrendous crime of rape the industry is unlikely to forgive him in the same way they forgave the other stars. Also Ahuja hasn't been in the industry for long and does not have as many influencial friends as Sanjay, Salman or Fardeen.
Ahuja made his name through staring in low budget independant films. He received critical aclaim for his first acting role in the film Hazaron Khwaishein Aisi. His films Gangster, Woh Lamhe and Life in a Metro alongside Shilpa Shetty received rave reviews and were all box office hits. He was recently seen in his first full fledged big budget commercial film Bhool Bhulaiyaa.
Shiny Ahuja was arrested on 15th June 2009. He has been accused of raping his 18 year old maid and faces seven years in prison if found guilty. It was initially reported by a section of the Indian media that he had confessed to the crime but this was later declared to be false.
Judging by the lengths of the trials of Sanjay Dutt, Salman and Fardeen Khan it looks like Shiney Ahuja will have to wait a long time before the courts reach a verdict. With a rape allegation hanging over his head, it's highly unlikely that he will have any support from the film fraternity. Looks like for the near future at least the sun will not be shining on Shiney Ahuja.
